Having some previous knowledge of the warcraft universe will make this read more enjoyable, but don't let that hold you back. You might miss a reference or two from another book, but it is still worthwhile. I was unable to put these books down when I started to read them, it consumed me.
tl;dr: Awesome books, go read.

Hmm, are those books really any good? I played all of the games including WoW for at least 4 years (quit like 1.5 years ago) but never considered reading the books... Thought they'd be shit...
I haven't read all of the books yet, but am working my way through them Frank - out of the 7 I've read I've loved 5.
Those books always did catch my eye at the book store... Maybe I'll have to go pick one up.
